Put 4444 Mountain Blvd. into your Map App and you will find yourself at Leona Lodge…right next door is a nondescript trailhead that will lead you to this…
Old wooden bridges, a canyon of redwood and laurels, and wouldn’t you know it….a running creek! If you are like me, and love the sound of water in nature, take an hour out of your day to hide away in this little gem. The trail is not well maintained and I do warn that uphill clambering over a few roots, rocks and logs is involved. Few people seem to come here, I was all alone at 9:00am, suddenly startled by a trail runner who came up behind me.
If you take it all the way up it intersects with a more established trail, turn left you can continue upwards to Merritt College. Turn right and I believe you wind up back down on Mountain Blvd. I took the trail up, and then backtracked the way I came.
All in all, it’s not a super long hike, but it’s well worth it just for that sound…

What a beautiful looking spot for a hike! I’m definitely going to have to add this to my list 🙂 I’m guessing the answer is yes, but have you done the hike down into the Redwood Grove at Redwood Regional Park in Oakland? Not sure if there is still running water, but hopefully the creek will be flowing after some rain this winter! http://thethriftytravelerca.blogspot.com/2015/02/redwood-regional-park-oakland.html
Hi Audrey – I hike in Redwood often, it’s my favorite :o) I am doing a post next week about the little red and black visitors they get there every winter :o) The stream is dry right now though…fingers crossed!
